At least once a week, Elijah appears at our bedside in the middle of the night after waking from a bad dream. Most nights, I walk him back to his room, pray with him, sing with him and that is the end of that. Some nights, however, he is really shaken up and has a hard time settling back down. Last night was one of those nights. He thought he had heard someone banging on his door and would not be convinced that he had been dreaming. We prayed, we sang, we talked, we prayed some more… I reminded him of Zephaniah 3:17 and how God is singing over us. And of Psalm 4:8- that we can sleep in peace because God is our safety.
He was still a little uneasy… At this point, I suggested that he start thinking of things he is thankful for. We don’t count sheep around here, we count our blessings! I guess it worked… He went back to sleep and woke up this morning talking about some funny dream he had.
